How to Apply the Scotts® 4 Step™ Program

Keep your lawn lush and weed-free year-round with the Scotts® 4 Step™ Program. Follow these seasonal applications to feed and protect your grass from spring through fall.

Step 1: Crabgrass Preventer + Lawn Food (Early Spring – Feb-April)

Prevents crabgrass before it germinates and greens up your lawn after winter.
• Apply by Easter when temps are still cool (below 80°F).

Step 2: Weed Control + Lawn Food (Late Spring – April-June)

Kills dandelions and broadleaf weeds while feeding your lawn.
• Apply near Memorial Day, at least 4-6 weeks after Step 1.
• Apply on a damp lawn when no rain is expected for 24 hours.

Step 3: Lawn Food with 2% Iron (Summer – June-August)

Boosts color and strengthens against heat and drought.
• Apply around Independence Day.
• Water in if no rain is expected.

Step 4: Fall Lawn Food (Late Summer-Fall – Aug-Nov)

Protects and strengthens for a healthier lawn next spring.
• Apply between Labor Day and mid-October.
• Water in to speed up greening.
